Reasons Why You’ll Not Succeed in Freelancing

The lure of this industry is growing by the minute. With little start-up costs, accessible and cheap internet and a new awakening among businesses, freelancing is slowly but albeit gaining a foothold in our country. The realization that one can earn a living while working in their most comfortable surroundings can quickly become a nightmare if not well handled. To succeed, one needs determination, focus, good business instincts, killer patience among others. The points below will aid you in making a success out of your career path.

Hobby

When one hears hobby, images of a lazy afternoon, perched up on a hammock reading a good book while baking in the hot African sun cloud the mind. Or, one dressed in khaki overalls with a shovel in hand tending to your tomato garden in your backward. Having a hobby is not necessarily a bad thing, but approaching an economic activity with a leisure attitude will not bring in any monetary gain.

There are thousands of people who have turned their hobbies into mega businesses and still get to enjoy their hobbies. The secret is to treat the hobby like you would any other job or business.

Time Management

If you run a one wo/man show, then you understand the importance of having an excellent time management system. In the beginning, you have all the time to market, attend seminars/networking events and even have time to worry about where your next income will come from. This is the time to put in place the foundations for super time management skills.

Take it from me, the moment the clients start banging on your door, your time will no longer belong to you. Without an effective time management schedule, you are bound to disappoint clients and miss deadlines.

Lack of marketing

For any business to survive and live beyond its third birthday, marketing is very crucial. Unfortunately, when one gets a steady flow of client, marketing takes a back seat. The realization for continuous marketing only comes to the fore when the clients’ stream is thinning or has thinned.

As a rule, even when you have clients keeping you awake at night, remember to stay on top of your target’s markets always by through continuous marketing. You can also go back to your clients and remind them that you available for future work.

By putting the necessary measures in place, your freelancing will surely pay off – economically and be a success.
